SYNOPSIS
Why, even today, in many cultures, does gender dictate destiny? Who makes the rules? Who are these Pillars of Society – either created by the society, or self proclaimed – who know it all? Is there not rampant hypocrisy in societies and cultures when you scratch the surface of so called traditions and moral posing that the keepers claim? Are not most ‘innocents’ less innocent than proclaimed… and most ‘villains’ less guilty than posited? Why do people embrace the concept of Providence? Is it not just convenience, or comfort, that it provides? How do society, politics, and economic power alter the rules? Why does humanity frequently lag behind intellect? Why do we abnegate intellect before dogmatic authority? Why should authority validate utterance?
Why are we so imprisoned? Ibsen’s ‘Pillars of Society’ brings ourselves that we need to see on stage.
