Richard Holbrook Description
RICHARD SINGS RODGERS WITH A LOT OF HEART Singer Richard Holbrook presents this musical tribute to the
celebrated composer Richard Rodgers (1902-1979). Throughout his brilliant career,
Rodgers wrote unforgettable songs for the Broadway stage and Hollywood film
musicals with such gifted and prolific lyricists as Lorenz Hart, Oscar
Hammerstein, and Stephen Sondheim. Holbrook, a three-time MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs)Award
nominee for Best Male Vocalist, will be singing Rodgers songs from such classic
Broadway shows as A Connecticut Yankee, Spring Is Here, Jumbo, Babes in Arms,
Too Many Girls, Carousel, No Strings, and Do I Hear A Waltz? Also
featured are songs from memorable movie musicals such as Love Me Tonight and
Hallelujah I’m A Bum.
Holbrook will be accompanied by the fabulous Tom Nelson Trio – Tom Nelson on piano; Tom Kirchmer on bass; and Peter Grant on drums. Tom Nelson is Musical Director. Veteran Broadway and cabaret performer Richard Barclay will direct the show. Towards the end of his life, Richard Rodgers suffered from oral cancer which ultimately took his life. As a result, this performance is a benefit for The Bruce Paltrow Oral Cancer Fund which is a collaboration between the Paltrow family represented by Ms. Blythe Danner (Paltrow), Gwyneth Paltrow, Jake Paltrow and The Oral Cancer Foundation. The Fund is designed not only as a memorial to producer / director Bruce Paltrow, whose life was also lost to this disease, but it also continues his vision of helping others less privileged in the US where disparities in healthcare exist. The Oral Cancer Foundation offers free cancer screening services and disease information to those who have limited or no access to medical care, or have no insurance. In the Foundation’s studies and research, individuals in these areas suffer twice the incidence rate of oral cancer, and twice the death rate. The general admission of $25.00 ($20.00 for MAC Members) for RICHARD HOLBROOK: RICHARD SINGS RODGERS WITH A LOT OF HEART, will be donated to The Bruce Paltrow Oral Cancer Fund to provide needed disease and risk factor information to these groups, engage in free public screening events to find the disease at early survivable stages, and other public service endeavors as they relate to reducing their burden from this disease. |
