Joseph Summer and Friends Description
"Summer's musical language is comfortably tonal but sophisticated, ceaselessly inventive, and often gripping; he's a vivid musical storyteller. It's an embarrassment of riches." – Opera News, 2017. Since 2003, The Shakespeare Concerts has presented recitals and recordings of music inspired by the Immortal Bard with world class musicians in venues across the United States, the Czech Republic, the People’s Republic of China, and extensively via the Albany and PARMA labels. The mainstay of the series is the music of Massachusetts composer Joseph Summer, though it regular features (as does our concert) settings of Shakespeare and contemporaries by composers spanning the 17th through 21st centuries. Stellar performers for this event include soprano Kathryn Guthrie, tenor Neal Ferreira and Czech concert pianist Miroslav Sekera (who incidentally appeared as the young Mozart in the 1984 film Amadeus). Others, including AC music professor John McGinn, will also take part. |
