Being a diverse campus clearly is not enough! This conference, part 1 of 3 conferences in 2018, will help us turn diversity, equity and inclusion programs into ACTION - to support our first generation, minority and otherwise challenged students. Topics include high school to college transition, sustaining success in the first year, supporting student identity without building silos. Discussions will lead to practical solutions and implementable initiatives around academic, social and financial supports.

A recent Univ. of Hartford graduate will keynote these challenges, and a skilled faculty expert will put his comments in context.  An“expert panel” will then feature 3-4 college students who have overcome various types of challenges BECAUSE of their diversity, and then college/university staff members will respond. Working sessions after lunch, led by adult and student co-facilitators, will look at  practices that help students engage with their schools to find their “identity” and avoid isolation.

CHERE’s conferences feature student involvement, with adults as supporters, and foster lots of dialogue, not speeches, and the presence of representatives from both public and private colleges and universities in New England and New York.
