On a remote island, the sorcerer Prospero plots his vengeance against his evil brother’s schemes. Using magic and drawing on the hidden powers of the supernatural world, he conjures up a tempest, to cause his brother Antonio and the King of Naples to believe they are shipwrecked on the island. In the end, his daughter Miranda and the son of the King of Naples are married, and the play ends with the natural order restored. Filled with humans and supernatural beings alike, this play, one of Shakespeare’s last and most enduring works, offers a whirlwind of ideas and images to the imagination.
