The Jeff Tower Memorial Quartet is Tom Catanzaro, saxophone; Sean Longstreet, guitar; Taylor Smith, bass; David Hitchings, drums. The four members live in areas across Southern California, but each began their musical life in Hemet.
Tom lives in Hemet where he works as a pastor. He attended the Manhattan School of Music where he studied saxophone with Bob Mintzer; he has performed with such luminaries Roy Hargrove, the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, and Eric Louis. At 15, Tom won the LA Music Center Spotlight Award in the Jazz Instrumental category. Tom graduated from Hemet High School in 2002. Sean works as a public school teacher, performer, and composer in Los Angeles. Last year, he was named one of LAUSD’s twenty-two “Teachers of the Year.” Sean earned music degrees from the University of Redlands and Sam Houston State University. Sean graduated from HHS in 2002. Taylor lives in El Cajon, CA. He is a music professor and Chair of Performing Arts at Cuyamaca College. Taylor earned three degrees in music, two at Claremont Graduate University and one at BYU-Idaho. Taylor graduated from HHS in 2000. David is a professional drummer, performing throughout Southern California. He currently lives in the mountain community of Crestline. David is a former member of the Woody Herman Orchestra; he has accompanied such great performers as Carol Channing, Bob Hope, Lanny Morgan, and Rob McConnell. David graduated from HHS in 1982. The Jeff Tower Memorial Quartet formed for two reasons: 1. As a convenient excuse for these four musicians to play together, and 2. To pay homage to their great mentor and spread his passion for music to new (and old) audiences. Despite the two decades that separated their times at Hemet High School, each of the members of the quartet is connected via Jeff Tower and the group is a testament to Tower’s commitment to music and the exceptional quality of his work as an educator. This night of music should be a night to remember! The Diamond Valley Arts Center is the perfect venue to experience music at it’s finest! Beer, wine and refreshments are available for purchase. Participating local restaurants offer 10% with your ticket. MUSIC AT THE CENTER is a fundraiser for The DVAC and its programs. Doors open at 7:30 pm with the concert beginning at 8:00pm.
