Description
In “Pearl Harbor Blues,” Joe Clayton said “I turned on my radio and heard Mr. Roosevelt say, ‘we wanted to stay out of Europe and Asia, but now we’ve a debt to pay.” Today SCF Jazz pays a tribute back to veterans. Dr. Pete Carney leads SCF Jazz in a music and video program from the golden age of jazz on the high seas, when dance bands traded tour buses for trenches. Jazz bands from Benny Goodman to Dave Brubeck have often been at the front lines with our military. While Glenn Miller counted off “When Johnny Comes Marching Home,” many soldiers were marching away to war. Jazz during the war became symbolic of something that was bigger than the dance floor. From foxholes in Normandy to bunkers in the Pacific, soldiers listened to jazz as the soundtrack of freedom worth fighting for. Items Not Allowed
