Description
The SSO’s first concert of the "season" will explore the music of Europe as we celebrate the 250th Anniversary of Beethoven. We will be featuring a small set of strings socially distanced to ensure the safety of our performers and patrons.
The concert will begin with Jean Sibelius’ Andante Festivo. 8’ Felix Mendelssohn – Sinfonia No. 3 in E Minor for String Orchestra will follow. To continue our celebration of Europe, the SSO will perform 8’ Ludwig van Beethoven – Cavatina from String Quartet, Op. 130, a melodic piece that is actually the final piece on the Voyager Golden Record! We feature pianist Chris Dillon during 25’ Johann Sebastian Bach’s energetic - Piano Concerto in D Minor. The well-known Hamlet Entr’acte by 4’ Peter Tchaikovsky will follow. 5’ Franz Schubert, arranged by Brian Folus – Erlkönig will excite you with its fast pace and energy. To end the night, the SSO welcomes Emmanuel and Frances Borowsky from Baltimore. The two will be featured in 10’ Antonio Vivaldi - Concerto for Violin and Cello in A Major. A reviewer in Germany wrote the following about Frances: Oozing overall confidence and with sovereignty, she played with a superbly juicy tone, rich in resonance, with a dance-like swing and full of spirit – Heidelberg Rhein-Neckar Zeitung, Germany. The German Heidelberg Rhein-Neckar Zeitung's assessment of American violinist Emmanuel Borowsky has been echoed by audiences and media in over 37 countries throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
Harford Cable Network will be recording the concert for those to enjoy from home! Given the circumstances, we ask that you print your ticket or keep it on your phone to allow for a quick and safe entry into the venue.
