Open Door Theater presents L. Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz
For its 44th season, Open Door Theater is performing The Wizard of Oz. (Book by L. Frank Baum with music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E. Y. Harburg, background music by Herbert Stothart, dance and vocal arrangements by Peter Howard, and orchestration by Larry Wilcox. Adapted by John Kane for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Based upon the Classic Motion Picture owned by Turner Entertainment Company and distributed in all media by Warner Brothers.) Follow the yellow brick road over the rainbow in this stage adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s beloved tale, featuring the iconic musical score from the MGM film. The timeless tale, in which young Dorothy Gale travels from Kansas over the rainbow to the magical Land of Oz, makes friends, has adventure, heartbreak and realizes that she has the power to create her own future continues to thrill audiences worldwide. And we will present The Wizard of Oz in the inclusive and authentic way that makes Open Door Theater a home for so many of us. There’s no place like Open Door Theater! This is a don't-miss production with an all star cast that includes actors who are Deaf, neurodiverse, Autistic, have Down syndrome, and/or have mobility and cognitive challenges, with a fantastic score and brilliant choreography. In true Open Door fashion, it highlights diversity, courage, and friendship. Open Door Theater’s Production is Directed by Margot Law, with Music Director Kathryn Denney, Choreographer Becky Robichaud, Stage Manager Jess Penney, Director of Artistic Sign Language Kristin Johnson, and Produced by Sam Gould and Dawn Gomez. Since 1980, Open Door Theater has been an all volunteer, non-profit, multi-generational community theater with a social justice mission of access, inclusion and diversity. Sam Gould, President and Executive Producer of Open Door, would be happy to talk with you about how the company is creating an integrated, top notch, accessible theater experience “on both sides of the curtain” — and what diverse theater looks like. No food or beverages are allowed in the RJ Grey Auditorium. Snack and drinks will be available for purchase in the lobby. NO NUTS or CITRUS of any kind are allowed in the school building.
Assistance dogs in vests are always allowed and welcome. Pets and support animals are not permitted as they can interfere with the important job performed by the trained and licensed assistance dogs including the assistance dog in the cast.
