Devil's Advocate Burlesque Description
The Devil’s Advocates are an interdisciplinary Burlesque and Performance Arts ensemble based in the heart of rainy Seattle, Washington. After graduating from Cornish College of the Arts, a few curious artists gathered around a table hidden in the shade of evergreens. There, they asked each other about their artistic goals and on a whim, this group of individuals decided to take the plunge and meld their visions into a collaborative effort. 4 years later, The Devil’s Advocates are one of the most successful performance ensembles to emerge from Cornish. Hailing from Cherry Manhattan’s Neo-Burlesque Theory and Performance class, the Devil’s harness an understanding of the history of burlesque as well as the tools to mold it into something uniquely theirs. Their monthly show, Friction, has been running every first Friday at the Rendezvous since 2016, where they also produce theatrical productions such as their sold out run of Moonwake, a gothic exploration of sexual empowerment. In addition to producing two large original works a year, The Devil’s use their platform to bring bodies of all shapes, sizes, colors, identities and expressions into the spotlight and celebrate our individualities together, hand in hand. Between our weird pre-show rituals and close relationships with our audiences, at a Devil’s show, everyone is family. With diverse skillsets that include extensive training in Musical Theatre, Dance, Performance Production, and Visual Arts & Design, the Devil’s create a unique punch all their own: something sweet, a little bit spicy, and mysteriously enticing Items Not Allowed
