Desert Echoes Flute Performers Description
The Desert Echoes Flute Project is an exciting and adventurous flute choir programs sponsored by the Mesa Community College Music Department. The Members are from the Phoenix metropolitan area and include professionals, music educations, college students and community musician who all enjoy playing the flute. The members preform in the Symphonic Flute Choir Chamber Flute Choir and smaller chamber groups including award winning sextet, trios and quartets. Started in the late-1960s by legendary educator, Grant Wolf, the Mesa Community College Jazz Band has left a long wake of continued success and has set the standard for jazz ensembles in Arizona. The band has performed all over the country at various festivals and concerts. It’s alum range from studio musicians, composers, film-scorers, jazz stars, and music educators who are currently active all over the country. The band showed continued success throughout the late-90s and 2000s under the direction of Fred Forney and Barb Catlin. Now under the direction of MCC alum, Paul Brewer, the MCC Jazz Band has a new home in its new Performing Arts Center and continues to promote jazz at a high level throughout the Valley. The Jazz portion of the concert will include musical sections from the Count Basie library, Holiday songs and some Big Band arrangements form the Jazz-Rock Fusion era.
